2020 swim lessons and swim team have been cancelled
due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

All registrations are strongly encouraged by June 15th, to help us schedule instructors.

Weekday Schedule: 6 Weekly sessions, held on Monday - Thursday, including the fourth of July holiday
  • All participants should arrive early on the first day, Monday, of the session, for skills assessment and group arrangement.

Weekday Swim Lessons:  10:00 am - 12:00 pm
        - Each session is one week (4 classes in total per session)
        - Swimmers must be 4 years old or older
        - $25 for members and $40 for non-members

Non-swimmers:  10:00 am - 10:30 am
Beginner:  10:45 am - 11:15 am
Intermediate/Advanced:  11:30 am - 12:00 pm
        - Intermediate & advanced swimmers will be divided into groups on the first day, according to skill level.

Weekday Swim Team:  12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, utilizing up to 5 of the swim lanes.
        - One session covers the entire 6 weeks (24 classes in total)
        - $50 for members and $120 for non-members
        - Friday will be a make up day for the swim team only, if a practice is cancelled due to weather.
        - Team may hold intra-squad meets during the week.

Saturday Schedule: One session covers the entire 6 weeks (6 classes in total)
Parent & Me:  11:00 am - 12:00 pm
        - This class is for the swimmers that are less than 4 years old and want to develop basic water skills.  Parents will be in the water with their child.
        -  $50 for members and $120 for non-members. 
Swim Team:  11:00 am - 12:00 pm
        - This class is similar to the weekday class, but condensed and designed to be more of a clinic.
        - Free for members and $50 for non-members.
Diving Clinic:  12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
        - This class will cover simple dives and flips, entering water from dives with good positioning and knowledge of middle/high school swim & dive team practices.
        - $50 for members and $120 for non-members.

Swim Lesson Class Descriptions
  • Swim Lessons are offered to ages four and above, in half-hour slots, based on skill level.
  • Swim Team is offered for swimmers who have all of the skills in the chart below and can swim with endurance up to 30 minutes, with minimal resting.
  • Skill Level may be assessed by reviewing the chart below or by lifeguards during regular pool hours.
    • Note that the swim instructor may notify parents of the need to move a swimmer to a different lesson level, based on skill / behavior.
    • The swim instructor has final say in a swimmers’ ability to work in a particular level/group.
  • Each group may have 4-12 participants, with 2-4 instructors.
    • Instructor ratio is higher at the beginning skill levels and thus the non-swimmer & Beginner lessons are capped.
    • Once capped the waiting list will be based on the date/timestamp in the registration form submitted and the parent(s) will be notified via email.

Skills taught & practiced at this level:

Non- swimmer

Hold onto the wall for up to 5 minutes unassisted.

Become more comfortable, put face in the water & blow bubbles, back and front float.


Can put face in the water, can push off the wall with confidence.

Swim front stroke, swim 10 yards unassisted, begin deep water swimming, practice kicking for propulsion. Tread water.

Intermediate / Advanced

Can swim unassisted some distance, can tread water 1 minute.

Swim a full 25 yards front crawl, learn backstroke & breaststroke, increase stamina, improve forward crawl.


Swim 30 minutes with minimal resting.

Build endurance, improve efficient strokes and form.


Tread water for 2 minutes. Get out of the deep end using the ladder without assistance.  Complete a simple front dive from the diving board.Simple back dive, front flip,and back flip- in pike and tuck positions. Entering water from dives with good positioning. Knowledge of middle/high school swim & dive team practices.

Registration - Paper registration forms are no longer offered.
  • Each participating swimmer must be registered via Google Forms.
  • One form per swimmer is required.
  • Registration is strongly encouraged by June 15th in order for instructors to be scheduled.
  • A registration-confirmation will be emailed each week before lessons or in the last week of June.

  • Weekday Swim Lessons are $25 per week for members and $40 per week for non-members.
  • Weekday Swim Team lessons are $50 for members and $120 for non-members, for the full 6-week season.
  • Saturday Swim Team lessons are free for members and $50 for non-members, for the full 6-week season.
  • Saturday Diving lessons are $50 for members and $50 for non-members, for the full 6-week season.
  • Saturday Parent & Me lessons are $50 for members and $50 for non-members, for the full 6-week season.

  • Payments are due by the first lesson/practice date at the club via cash, check, or credit card.
  • Refunds may be available only in extenuating circumstances at the discretion of the Board.
  • It is strongly encouraged to pay by June 15th, to avoid a line building up at lessons on the first day.
  • You can pay electronically, just ask for an invoice.

Alternatives to Group Lessons
In order to accommodate swimmers’ needs for more 1-1 attention in the pool, the Club offers private lessons:
  • Private Swim Lessons: $20 per half hour slot can be requested at the Club Desk via the following procedures: 
    • Simply write the name into a desired time slot in the Big Blue Book.
    • Check later to see if a lifeguard-instructor accepted the slot to teach your swimmer 1-1 at the pool.
    • Lifeguard Instructors can only provide private lessons during times they are not scheduled for life-guarding.
    • Payments can be made at the club desk anytime, up to the date of the lesson.
    • Please show your receipt to the lifeguard-instructor before the lesson begins.
    • Cancellations must be at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson or you will be charged the full amount.
  • NOTE:
    • The families of non-members that take a private lesson are welcome to enjoy the pool (excluding lap lanes) only while the lesson is occurring. Once the lesson is complete, the non-member family will need to exit the club. Memberships are available for those who wish to join the Swim Club, and can be purchased immediately at the front desk anytime during the season.

Weather cancellations
  • Lessons and team will be cancelled if weather is very heavy rain that obscures the lifeguard’s line of sight into the water and/or lightning or thunder in the area within one half hour or predicted by the National Weather Service within one half hour.
  • Weather cancellations will be announced via social media and also can be obtained after 9:30am, by calling the club at 607-266-9574.

  • Email sent to ithacaswimclub@gmail.com related to swim lessons will be replied to in a timely fashion by the Swim Club Lessons Coordinator.
  • Alternatively, the lessons coordinator can be reached at the club on Monday mornings. 
  • The lifeguard staffing the club desk can also be a good source of information.
  • A confirmation email will be sent after June 15th for all swim lessons registrations received.
